Within the College of Arts and Sciences at Western Michigan University, we offer a two-tiered advising system for undergraduates. Students receive major/minor specific advising through the faculty or staff expertise within the department and general advising regarding university and general education requirements as well as pre-professional advising through the College's advising office located in 2318 Friedmann Hall (http:// www.wmich.edu/cas/advising/). As a student with a major within the College of Arts and Sciences, I understand that I need to meet regularly with both a departmental and college advisor to ensure I have met all requirements for graduation.

If you have any questions regarding advising, please come to the main office at 1187 Rood Hall, or call (269) 387-5485.

The Geosciences Department wants to help all students keep track and go through the system as smoothly as possible. The department is committed to helping students graduate in a timely fashion. One of the ways to achieve this goal is for students to meet their advisor at least once per year. Students who postpone meeting with their respective advisor until their final year may face delaying their graduation date. The department wants to make it clear to its students that we, the faculty and staff of Geosciences, are committed to providing them with quality education, as well as valuable and timely advice throughout their journey.

Student Code and Academic Misconduct

"A student who chooses to enroll at Western Michigan University assumes the obligation for conduct that is compatible with the University's mission as an educational institution. While students have the privilege to enroll at the institution of their choice, choosing to enroll at Western Michigan University requires sa student to become aware of, and abide by the behavior standards of the University. Ignorance of acceptable boundaries of student behavior as contained in the Student Code is not a basis for excusing inappropriate behavior."

-WMU Student Code, pg. 6

The full WMU student code is available online at: http://osc.wmich.edu/

As educators (TAs and faculty!), it is important that we maintain high standards of academic integrity. Cases of suspected misconduct should be referred to the WMU Office of Student Conduct. The procedures and policies are described in full on the OSC website. More information regarding these procedures and the definitions of Academic Misconduct are delineated in the attached power point.
