Digital Databases

Outside researchers can access web-searchable data repositories maintained by faculty of the Department of Geosciences. These databases include hydrologic and geologic data for GIS and groundwater resource studies focusing on Asia and the Middle East, as well as a drill core records and data for sediment cores from throughout the Michigan Basin. The following digital databases are currently available:

MGRRE Core, Cuttings and well record data - maintained by the WMU Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education (MGRRE). This is a vast library of well log and drill core data from historic to recent oil and gas exploration in the Michigan Basin. Online data includes inventories of cores, cuttings, core analyses, chromatographic analyses of drill cuttings, core photographs, thin-sections, historic maps, oil/gas/water analyses, bottom-hole pressure data, total production information, and well log data from thousands of individual drill borings.

ESRS Lab Webmap Service - Over the past two decades, researchers from ESRS were involved in interdisciplinary projects that were funded by various national and international agencies. In addition to the publications that resulted from these efforts, large data sets were also generated. These data sets were archived over the years in separate spatial data bases. Recently such data bases were combined in a global database, and made available on the web for all scientists and users, taking advantage of the Google Maps web interface. Currently our global web-based GIS hosts five main data sets. More information
