Research

Near-Surface Geophysics

My research activities/interests have ranged from Aeromagnetic surveying and Induced Polarization applied to mineral exploration problems in the SW; geophysical prospecting in equatorial Brazil; well logging in water supply / monitor wells in Brazil and Michigan; resistivity and S.P. prospecting for potable ground water in the Amazon delta; the first underground I.P. surveying (Homestake Gold Mine); GPR for structural mapping in tropical Brazil; GPR for archaeology in Brazil, Mexico, and Michigan; development of the first underwater GPR antenna and subsequent use for sand thickness mapping in L. Michigan and UXO detection in L. Erie; development of the conductive model for LNAPL contaminant plumes; use of azimuthal resistivity to characterize primary depositional fabrics of clastic sediments; and application of multiple methods for near-surface investigations of environmental sites.

Ongoing Projects

  • Geophysical Test Site
  • LNAPLs and High Conductivity
  • Ft. St. Joseph Archaeology
